Many designers work on projects that do not involve additional structural work, but can also help select materials and colors. Architects can do all kinds of work, or just do floor plans and permits. Choosing a professional designer usually starts with a direct meeting, and how long the process takes depends on how many professionals you will meet.
make a plan. After choosing a design company, it's time to start making plans. This plan is called schematic design. They usually involve rough floor layouts and some simple appearances on the outside of the house. Design professionals need to spend some time to complete, usually, homeowners need one to two weeks to consider and make a decision. If it is a larger project, or the homeowner wishes to make other changes to the plan, the initial design phase may take several months.
Contractor interview. After the final schematic design is determined, contractors are usually introduced. At this stage, you usually have a basic understanding of the building's appearance, plan dimensions and some initial material choices. With much of this information, an initial cost estimate can be provided.
